Prolonged social media use poses real risks, especially for young people: Anxiety. Depression. Poor mental health. New York is requiring warning labels on addictive social media feeds to help kids understand that risk. This is a public health issue. We're treating it like one.

Louisiana AG Liz Murrill fires back at blue-state governors who refused to extradite doctors accused of shipping abortion pills into ban states — filing two lawsuits that take aim at both the providers and the shield laws protecting them. Murrill, joined by the attorneys general of Alabama and Arkansas, sued New York, California and Massachusetts at the Supreme Court, alleging their shield laws block cooperation with criminal investigations. A separate 100-page complaint targets more than 30 people and organizations accused of advertising, prescribing and shipping abortion drugs into states where distribution is prohibited. New York Gov. Hochul declared there was "no way in hell" she'd comply with Louisiana's extradition request. California Gov. Newsom told Murrill to "go f*** yourself." Murrill's response: "I said specifically at the time that we would be coming for them and we are." Jawad and Junaid Choudhary sought to defraud New York’s Medicaid system out of over $1.6 million by billing for non-existent services, inflating charges, and paying kickbacks,

post from their office

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon, New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James, and Acting Medicaid Inspector General Frank T. Walsh, Jr. today announced that two brothers pleaded guilty to grand larceny in the second degree for using three Medicaid transportation companies to systematically defraud the program out of more than $1.6 million. Jawad Choudhary, 44, and Junaid Choudhary, 45, both of Clifton Park, will pay full restitution.

Jawad and Junaid Choudhary sought to defraud New York’s Medicaid system out of over $1.6 million by billing for non-existent services, inflating charges, and paying kickbacks,

“The defendants in this case were bilking the state and lying about services provided to those who truly rely on Medicaid funding to live a healthy life,” Kindlon said. “I applaud the work of the Office of the New York State Comptroller, the Medicaid Inspector General, New York State Police and our Financial Crimes Bureau, who will always work together tirelessly to detect, investigate, and dismantle these health care fraud schemes that drain critical resources from programs intended for those who need medical care the most.”

I’ll be fair about what this data does and doesn’t show. Spending growth is not proof of fraud. Enrollment, wages, and health costs have all pushed Medicaid up. My claim is simpler. When spending more than doubles and indictments fall by more than 90%, the state’s auditor should be demanding to know why, loudly, publicly, and every year.

New York’s political class and one-party rule let this happen. When I’m Comptroller, Medicaid gets a full forensic audit, and my Fraud Strike Team will track, flag, and stop suspicious payments before they go out the door. Taxpayers will finally have a watchdog in Albany.

This summer, the federal government made the failure official. On June 30, the U.S. Health and Human Services Inspector General denied recertification of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and suspended roughly $60 million in federal funding, finding it the lowest-performing unit among similarly sized states.

The Attorney General’s office says the unit recovered $627 million in civil settlements from 2019 to 2025, and that’s real money. But a settlement is a check. A conviction is accountability.

Medicaid was created in 1965 to care for the poor. It's an important social safety net. America's poverty rate is 10.2%, the lowest since 1959. New York's Medicaid costs have exploded to about $135 billion a year, nearly double a decade ago. Yet 32.7% of New Yorkers are on Medicaid, second-highest in America. In New York City, it's about 42%. Add the Essential Plan, a free Medicaid-like program, not technically Medicaid, and roughly 39% of New Yorkers are on state-sponsored coverage. In New York City, it's about 52%. Why? More poor people? No. Our poverty rate ranks 13th; Medicaid enrollment, 2nd. Not enough private employers? No. New York hosts some of the world's biggest companies. Maybe those in power want government-run health care. We know how that ends. Canada's median treatment wait tops six months. England's NHS waiting list tops 7 million. And unfortunately, we know Medicaid is fraught with fraud and abuse. Oversight has collapsed. Federal regulators recently froze funding for New York's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, the worst among its peers. As Comptroller, I'll keep this safety net strong, but make it fair to taxpayers and free of fraud and abuse. My Fraud Strike Team will follow every dollar.

Hernandez Unveils Fraud Strike Team as Medicaid Costs Surge and Fraud Convictions Collapse

DiNapoli Has Audited New York for 19 Years. Where Was the Alarm on Medicaid?

Government is slowly taking over your health care, and they never put it to a vote. In 1960, government paid a quarter of America’s health bill. Today it’s about HALF, and in 2020, public spending blew past private for the first time in history. No referendum. No single-payer law. Just relentless expansion, year after year, until taxpayers are bankrolling a system nobody voted to build. The price? Health spending exploded from $74 billion to $5.3 TRILLION, nearly one of every six dollars in our entire economy. New York runs one of the largest Medicaid programs in the nation at roughly $126 billion a year, and STILL drowns in fraud, provider shortages, and runaway costs. This is government creep, plain and simple. More bureaucracy. Less choice. Worse care. I’m running for Comptroller to demand accountability for every wasted dollar. Albany’s blank check is over. The revelation that fraud in Minnesota’s state-run Medicaid programs may exceed $9 billion should alarm every taxpayer in America. That’s why, as Comptroller, I will audit day one. We will deploy real-time audit and AI-driven monitoring tools to detect fraud as it happens, not years after billions are gone. And we will establish one of the strongest whistleblower programs in the nation, using existing but underutilized laws to protect and reward those who come forward. Tax dollars are sacred. They must serve the vulnerable, not fraudsters. Accountability starts immediately.

This administration keeps trying to use federal funding to force states to carry out its agenda, and time and again, we have stopped them. We're going back to court again. https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/us-states-sue-block-new-conditions-family-planning-grants-2026-08-27/

Someone who is severely mentally ill should get treatment. So I have put out a plan to build residential treatment centers around the state and launch an Office of Civil Commitment to provide the severely mentally ill with the help they need and put them on a path to stabilization and independent living.

Someone who punches a nurse should be held accountable for committing assault, not released the same day. So I have proposed common sense reforms to our broken bail laws that will end the revolving door for violent criminals in our state.

Someone who is homeless should have access to safe and effective shelters. So I have pledged that on day one I will audit and investigate every homeless shelter in New York, clear out the crime and drugs from the shelters, and ensure that these nonprofits provide the wrap-around services necessary to transition individuals to stable housing.

No family should have to worry about affording heat when the temperatures drop. Washington Republicans may be willing to leave New Yorkers out in the cold, but your family is my fight. Our Home Energy Assistance Program will help families pay their heating bills and keep their homes warm this winter. Applications open November 2: http://ny.gov/HEAP

Tremendous thanks to @SamBergerNY and Rabbi Michael Weichselbaum for welcoming me to Queens. I met with the Yeshiva community leaders to discuss how we’re making our streets safer, our schools stronger, and building a New York where Jewish families and students can thrive.

I’m proud to have the endorsement of the Mental Health PAC. From committing nearly $2 billion in mental health care to holding tech companies accountable for keeping kids safe online, we'll keep fighting to ensure that every New Yorker has the support they need.

At least four people murdered at an elementary school in Oregon. Three of them children. Three kids who should have come home to their families tonight. How many more of our babies have to die before Washington finally finds the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and put our children first?

Right here at the Bryant Park station, the @MTA is building the first elevator funded by congestion pricing. Business is up, traffic is down. Now we’re putting billions to work on transit upgrades that will improve the rides of millions.
Stopped by Hell’s Kitchen with @ebottcher, @tonysimone, @CarlMichaelW, and Allen Roskoff. It was great to meet with staff and patrons, and talk to the local businesses who have done a wonderful job turning their establishments into welcoming spaces for our LGBTQ+ neighbors.

While @ZohranKMamdani and I are working to lower costs and deliver for New York families, one bad MAGA apple is trying to spoil the entire bunch.

Unlike Bruce Blakeman, we don’t use AI to make our videos. So everything in this one is real. Election Day is November 3rd. Early Voting starts October 24th and runs until November 1st.
We have 19 days to mobilize every corner of this state. 19 days to talk about how we’ll lower costs, keep our communities safe, and stand up to Trump. I know @AdrienneEAdams and I won’t take our feet off the gas. We’re going to make sure New Yorkers know we’re fighting for them.

Every child deserves a safe place to play, make friends and just be a kid. That’s why we’re investing $10 million in the Jackson Heights Boys & Girls Club community center, giving more kids a place to grow and make memories.
